Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Resigns

There are indications that the Sokoto Deputy Governor Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has resigned his position from the Aminu Tambuwal government.

Sun News Reported that he resigned on Tuesday night. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for governor with his (now former boss) Governor Aminu Tambuwal being in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

A source to Sun News said the Deputy governor already submitted a resignation letter to the State House Assembly but it was not read on the floor of the House during plenary on Tuesday.

The source said the development might not be unconnected to the build to the 2019 general elections in the State and across the country.

According to the source, “You know both the governor and his deputy will soon embroil in power struggles.”
“And that can lead to the latter’s impeachment if care is not taken. I think it is good for him to take this decision in order not to hamper his political ambition,” the source explained. (Sun News).

A lawmaker privy to this information also confirmed the receipt of the resignation letter. He added that the Deputy Governor Aliyi Sokoto did not resign due to political differences with his boss and neither was he forced with any impeachment threat.

Efforts to reach his Press Director Abubakar Bawa was abortive as he did not receive or respond back.
Governor Aminu Tambuwal’s Director-General Media and Publicity, Abubakar Shekara was not reachable at the time of filing this report as well.
