NYSC: NGO Sues IGP Over Adeosun’s Alleged Forgery

A Non-Government Organization, Human and Environment Development Agenda Resource Centre has sued the Inspector-General of Police Ibrahim Idris for the delay in investigating and probing Nigeria’s Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun. She is being accused of forging her Exemption certificate for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Program.

The NGO has asked a Federal High Court in Lagos to grant it a leave to seek an order of mandamus to compel the IG to carry out a probe of the NYSC forgery allegation against Kemi Adeosun.

According to the Chairman of the NGO Mr. Olanrewaju Suraju, the filing to court became necessary to avoid the case being swept under the carpet after especially with the silence of the Federal Government and the Minister.

He also said the IG of Police Ibrahim Idris shunned the probing since July 10, 2018.

HEDA added that if the allegation of forgery was true, that the minister alongside officials of the Department of State Services and the National Assembly who cleared her for the Ministerial appointment (and also used same to blackmail her) should be prosecuted as well.

The ex parte application presented by the NGO prayed for an urgent hearing of the case ‘in the overriding interest of justice since the subject matter is of utmost national concern and particularly of great interest to civil society in general.’

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program is a compulsory program by the Nigerian government for every young graduate. It is one program that has been sustained from the 1970s to date. Kemi Adeosun is being accused of forgery in a special investigative report by Premium Times.
