Two Ministers Disqualified from APC Guber Elections

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified two serving Ministers from participating in the 2019 governorship elections in their respective states.

The APC screening committee disqualified Women Affairs Minister Aisha Alhassan, and that of Communication, Adebayo Shittu from contesting in 2019.

Aisha Alhassan is from Taraba State and is known as Mama Taraba while Adebayo Shittu is from Oyo State, Nigeria.

Shittu Adebayo was disqualified for not participating in the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) while holding public office. No reason has been given for the disqualification of Aisha Al-Hassan.

Premium Times reported that Adebayo Shittu did not participate in the compulsory National Service (NYSC). Mrs Aisha Al-Hassan ran for the governorship elections in Taraba State under the APC in 2015 where she almost emerged as the first elected female governor of Nigeria.

Mama Taraba in the past showed her support for former Vice-President Atiku Abubabar saying that he is qualified to be the APC flagbearer in 2019.

This received criticism within the APC. Aisha Al-Hassan continued to be the Woman Affairs Minister till date under the Buhari-led APC government.

It is unfortunate that in Nigeria when issues that hold real value or affect people’s lives or the plight of the poor man happen, social media stalwarts hardly make any trend of it. We prefer to focus on things that either create fun and excitement while the ones that rob people of substance and can also generate creative engagement are sidelined.

The governor of Benue State, Nigeria; a state with a large expanse of arable land and water bodies decided to share wheelbarrows with his name branded on it, “Governor Ortom for you” and distributed it to young people as a tool of empowering them. Now if you are sane and humane and know much of what is happening in other countries for years, that alone should make you furiously angry. (permit the choice of words, cos I am angry like that).
