Hauwa Liman: Nigeria Mourns as Boko Haram Kills Aid Worker

It is a sad day for Nigeria and the world as Islamic State West Africa (ISWA) a breakaway faction of Boko Haram has executed Hauwa Liman, who was an aid worker with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

This is coming after the killing of  Saifura Ahmad who was a colleague of Hauwa Liman with the ICRC. She was 24 years.

Nigeria did not only fail Hauwa Liman, Nigeria has also failed every young Nigerian still alive, not done, Nigeria is ready to fail our children unborn. #EducationForAll #ZeroHunger is all we ask for.

Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji on Twitter

Nigeria is not a Nation. This is a false geographical contraption ruled by Vultures. Hauwa Liman, a Red Cross nurse was executed by Boko Haram yesterday after giving Govt notice. Saifura Ahmed was killed in Sep. What becomes the fate of Leah Sharibu &the 3rd Nurse, Alice Ngaddah?

@MicUchendu: We have all failed Hauwa Liman as Nigerians. Someone that dedicated herself to the service of humanity. May her soul rest in peace and may her murderers have a restless soul. @Gidi_Traffic

It’s really sad that Nigeria has turned to this! Where the Government has no regard for human life, if this was to ever happen in saner climes, the government would react very differently. May the soul of Hauwa Liman rest in perfect peace!

We trend Hauwa Liman for a day and move on. That’s the sad reality of our nation at the moment. We have NORMALISED deaths. By afternoon, Fayose will be trending as No 1. We have moved on. Thank you Hauwa for your sacrifice. The lives you touched would never forget you.

So I’m just seeing tweets of the health worker Hauwa Liman that was murdered 😞. Some people later will still be shouting sai Buhari, your reward is with ALLAH. May Almighty ALLAH forgive all her sins & grant her Jannatul Firdaus, Ameen. 😪

A country wit a retired general as president n our military cannot rescue captives under the detention of a local terrorist group, captured, held n executed in their own country. This is a strong reason to remove the present government next election #TotalFailure Hauwa Liman RIP

JFK | #NewVoices on Twitter

DearNaija Good morning This is just to let you know that the current Nigerian administration’s way of doing all they can to get Hauwa Liman out yesterday was by begging and keeping the lines open with the terrorists they paid millions of dollars too a few months ago.

At this point I keep asking myself is there a gov’t in place or, is it that they don’t care about us or, is cuz she is not a daughter of a governor, senator, minister or the president?

Jude C. Ndukwe on Twitter

May the souls of Saifura Husseini Ahmed and Hauwa Liman, two aid workers killed by Boko Haram, rest in peace! What a sad day!

Fati on Twitter

9 years later, Bokoharam is still thriving, abducting women and killing people around rural communities. Today, it executed Hauwa Liman, one of thousands of women and girls it has abducted, held captive and one of many eventually killed. There are no words to describe the terror. https://t.co/SA7tzBStWw

Temie Giwa-Tubosun on Twitter

This is Hauwa Liman. A few hours ago, Boko Haram executed her and stole her future. Her only crime was being a health worker who cared for Nigeria’s most vulnerable people in the North! I am here to bear witness to a life of service. We will not forget you.

Habu Kale Tijjani on Twitter

Today is Hauwa Liman. Who knows who’s next? We must all join in One Voice, we must create awareness and advocate for the safe return of the other captives out there. #NotAnotherNigerian May Her soul rest in peace and bring peace to our dear land.

Thoughts and prayers with the family of Hauwa Liman. May her murderers never find peace.

MR. MAN on Twitter

The murder of Hauwa Liman is very sad and most unfortunate. However, it is worse of that BH gave notice of the impending murder and government was incapable of doing anything about it. May the good Lord rest her soul.

Gimba Kakanda on Twitter

Hauwa Liman’s tragic end is quite a traumatising story, for someone who put herself in harm’s way to contribute to solving our humanitarian crisis. May her family find the strength to overcome this huge loss, this other betrayal of a citizen by the Nigerian state.

Chioma Agwuegbo on Twitter

I feel weak. We knew Hauwa Liman was abducted. We knew they gave the country a deadline. We knew they kept to their deadline & executed Saifuwa. We did nothing till Hauwa was killed. Just like that. There is a deep sadness in my soul. The terror she must have felt.

Demola Olarewaju on Twitter

FG was ‘shocked’ by the killing of Hauwa Liman. Someone should explain this pls: shocked that in spite of all they did, BH went ahead and executed her or shocked because they had forgotten that BH had publicly promised to kill her if some demands made know to Govt were unmet?

Donald Duke on Twitter

The execution of Hauwa Liman by Boko Haram is an indictment on our government’s inability to ensure the safety and security of it’s citizens.

How can Govt claim to be shocked by the killing of Hauwa Liman when a clear deadline had been set for her to be killed? How can Govt claim it did everything possible to rescue her when BH had made a demand from Govt which probably Govt didn’t meet before she was killed?

Hauwa Liman was out there in the North saving lives as an ICRC worker before her abduction by Boko Haram. From her addiction till execution, the government failed to rescue her. Despite all the lives she saved, when it was time to save hers, the government failed. Rip Hauwa.

Ryan Cummings on Twitter

News reports claiming that ISWAP has carried out its promise to execute ICRC aid worker, Hauwa Liman. This development surely shows that there is no real differentiating the al-Barnawi & Shekau factions & perhaps reinforces claims of imminent rapprochement
