The Federal Government of Nigeria has ordered the shut down of three major Pharmaceuticals in the country; Emzor, Peace Standard and Bioraj.
This is coming after a documentary done by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) that revealed the level of abuse by young Nigerians of the codeine cough syrup.
The documentary which has gone viral and raised concerns showed the level of abuse, the effects on many young Nigerians who take the codeine without minding the health and mental consequences.
It is in a bid to stop the menace of drug abuse that the government decided to shut down the entire production lines of three major pharmaceuticals; not just the codeine lines but their entire production process.
The real question in the mind of Nigerians is if this development of closing pharmaceuticals will deal with the codeine problem without creating more problems or a shortage of other drugs?
