Breaking: Tambuwal Declared as Sokoto Governor-Elect

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced . Aminu Tambuwal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the Governor-Elect in Sokoto State, Nigeria.

In announcing the results of the elections, the Returning Officer, Prof. Fatimah Mukhtar said that Aminu Tambuwal polled a total of 512,002 votes to beat Ahmad Aliyu of the All Progressives Congress who scored 511,660.

Tambuwal won with the slim margin of 342 votes.

The Resident Electoral Officer of INEC Prof. Sadiq Musa said the declaration of Aminu Tambuwal was based on the majority votes. The INEC Returning Officer said the number of registered voters was 1,888,767 while those who voted were 1,083,413.

Total votes cast were 1,067,994 while those rejected was 31,662.
