Ayo Fayose for President: A Dynamic Leader

Ayo Fayose among every governor is the one that admits to owing salaries, with the months stated and when he challenged he has the decency (that people like Rochas Okorocha) don’t have to reveal how much he pays every month. Such acts by this governor Ayo Fayose shows that he is trying to prioritize spending

Ayodele Peter Fayose is one man that comes out to be controversial to many and everyone seems to have a reason for such. The allegations of corruption to those of his bizarre attitude and the manner in which he visits strange places to connect with the people. Ayo Fayose is one man who was seen as visiting the poor, marketplaces, joints, beer parlours and other places meant for common Nigerians. Yes, many believed it was for votes and to get elected but since after being in office, the courageous governor did not stop his routine.

Just like other governors like the unfortunate Rochas Okorocha, who rode on Keke (tricycle) before the elections but after that no one saw him again; Ayo Fayose has defied that stereotype. The stereotype that that candidates can do anything to get votes but shut their doors and ears to the cry of the people when elected. Someone like El-Rufai was known to connect with young people but today I believe he is very busy to do such. Ayo Fayose is one man that has proved beyond political trends to be the man for the people.

On the issue of corruption and other allegations, no one has come out to say categorically what amount he has stolen. Every allegation has been done by baseless people or politically motivated when the EFCC closed his Zenith Bank account Ekiti State. In his first coming as the governor of Ekiti, he challenged the former President Olusegun Obasanjo on certain issues that forced him into exile. The erudite lawyer and human rights activist equally have accused Ayo Fayose of murder and still, no court has taken it up. Some will say that immunity covers him and all but let us face the reality of Nigeria’s political space.

The many people who are in government if examined critically and from globally accepted corrupt practices, you will find that only a few will be found innocent. You don’t have to steal money to be corrupt; in fact in Singapore any intent to do i.e. while you are still thinking of it you can be charged and prosecuted for being corrupt. Other areas like nepotism and social ways that people can do things that are corrupt equally available. As much as we want to fight corruption and recover stolen monies, I know that we can make more way more than was stolen if our government can open up the system for wealth creation. If the Nigerian socio-economic and political space is opened up and people empowered to dream and achieve their dreams in a competitive system.

Ayo Fayose among every governor is the one that admits to owing salaries, with the months stated and when he challenged he has the decency (that people like Rochas Okorocha) don’t have to reveal how much he pays every month. Such acts by this governor Ayo Fayose shows that he is trying to prioritize spending (yes salaries are important for citizens to make their living easy) but the governor clearly has been focusing on the infrastructural transformation of his state. He has proved to be proactive in fixing challenges in his state and with the Fulani herdsmen cattle rattling and mayhem, he is one of the exceptions among all including the federal government. He has been able to handle this by means available to him.

As the federal government continues to hold on to the state police and the redeployment of other security outfits, Ayo Fayose found it wise to use the vigilante groups and hunters to fight the Fulani menace. He is no friend of the central government and many believe he is the nightmare of President Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC). He has proved to be a dynamic fellow; who will not be carried by the comfort of Aso Rock or incessant travels in the name of Shuttle Diplomacy or Anti-Corruption fight or image building. The man has shown us who he is, what he is and what he can do. He has shown his devils and we have seen that his good side overshadows every other bad side; real and perceived.

He has equally proved to be a grassroots politician, he is a multi-ethnic leader who connects with all and sundry and Nigeria is in need of that right now. He doesn’t seem like one who has fear running through his veins, neither will be for anybody but certainly, he will be for all. Cabals cannot threaten him or hold him to ransom, he will dare the strong men in battle array.

Ayo Fayose seems to be that one politician today who is in touch with national issues, he is dynamic, mobile and still has the energy of young men in him.
