AIA 2018: @Segalink Breaks Protocol #ReformPoliceNG

The African Icon Awards has released a list of their icons for 2018. This was done by the approval of a governing council led by His Imperial Majesty, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, Ooni of Ife, and the organizers of the event, In-House Entertainment LTD.

Long-time faces on this list include Tony Elumelu, Innocent Idibia(2baba), Chief Oba Adetola Emmanuel King, President George Weah, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state, among others.

The Award which will be holding its premier edition this 2018, so far has 7 categories including; Business Icon of the Year, Entrepreneurial Icon of the Year, Sports Icon of the Year, Entrepreneurial Icon of the Year, Literary Icon of the Year, Young Entrepreneurial Icon of the Year, African Icon of the Year and 3 posthumous awards to be given to three Africans.

In a feat that is truly commendable, deserving and inspiring for Nigerians on social media and offline, Segun ‘Segalink’ Awosanya has been chosen for a Special Recognition Icons Award.

With his team and other well-meaning Nigerians, he was able to lead a massive campaign to end Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) brutality on young Nigerians without cause or criminality. This campaign hashtagged #EndSARS #ReformPoliceNG generated over 200,000 tweets and RTs in less than 24 hours and counting. As Nigerians continued to engage online and offline, the Nigerian government by the directive of Acting President Yemi Osinbajo initiated an overhaul that division of the Nigerian Police.

It was a moment of celebration for all young Nigerians, it was a moment of celebration for every citizen who has lost a loved one at the hands of a few police officers who abuse their mandate to serve. Sega, some now call their President who they simply report to on Twitter confident of response and immediate action.

OSITA CHIDOKA RETURNS TO PDP

Many think he should run for office which he has consistently said, he is happy as a private citizen actively engaging those in power through activism. For a man of words, he is wise to understand the sycophancy of our present political dispensation and democracy; but will he run later in the future when the reforms he is pushing pull through across board?

We congratulate him and his team; they have shown that social media can be used a force for good, that wailing actually works.

May your celestial wisdom never run dry Uncle ‘Segalink’, more accolades to come.
